Letterpress printed on a Vandercook SP20 printing press. Each image is hand painted with watercolors and gouache. Book is housed in portfolio envelope. Wings Of Song was inspired by a bird’s nest which fell out of Cathy’s wisteria bush around the time her sons were going off to school. Wings is a story about the nurturing of children from pregnancy through young adulthood. Cathy DeForest is a Northwest book artist who integrates printmaking, photography, and mixed media into her artist books and letterpress broadsides. Cathy has been teaching and mentoring in one form or another since 1968. She has sold over 3,000 letterpress broadsides of her work and her artist books have been exhibited and collected internationally. Through her multi-layered works, Cathy seeks to evoke the depth and mystery of the human experience. |
